þ Kanavel's signs for infectious flexor tenosynovitis
 - four signs:
  1 symmetrical swelling along flexor tendon sheath
  2 tenderness and erythema along the flexor tendon sheath
  3 semiflexed posture of the involved finger
  4 severe pain on passive extension of the DIP joint
 - combination of the four is pathognomonic
 - #4 is best; others sometimes seen in other finger infections
