[Rosen 3rd ed. p 2386] þ Dental Abscesses and Complications. - Abscessed anterior maxillary teeth can spread infection to the canine space. Infections in the canine space can spread to the facial venous system and cause a cavernous sinus thrombosis. [Rosen 3rd ed. p 2386] þ Trench Mouth - ANUG - ANUG = acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis - Symptoms: dental pain, a metallic taste, and foul breath. - Exam: The gingival papillae between the teeth are blunted, ulcerated, inflamed, edematous, and there is a grey pseudomembrane overlying them. - Normal gingivitis occurs when the gingiva is inflamed but not invaded by bacteria.
