NSAID OVERDOSE ============== þ NSAID OD Symptoms - (19% of cases.): mild CNS depression, GI upset. Also, nystagmus, rash, transient decreased renal function, hypertension, bradycardia. Two kids had seizures, one developed apnea and died from aspiration and sepsis. All who developed symptoms did so within 4 hours. Need over 400 mg/kg to even develop symptoms (e.g., 20 Advil). - Standard Rx in ER: one dose of charcoal, observe for 6 hours. Keep and follow BUN/Cr if older or ill. [Hall AH, et al. Based on this, it has been suggested that such patients can be considered "medically cleared" after a 4-6 hour period of observation after their ingestion.
