þ Systemic Toxicity
 - Hydrofluoric Acid toxicity: deaths of mice with slightly > LD50 cut in half
   by pretreatment with amiodarone (SAEM 2004)

þ Topical treatment of HF burns.
 - Maalox as good as calcium gluconate gel.  [Ann Emerg Med 1994:24:9-13.]
 - High-dose MgSO4 useful in animal model. [Ann Emerg Med 1994;23:464-469.]
 - Burns with dilute (<20%) solutions may take 24 hours to show symptoms.

þ Hydrofluoric eye burns
 - avoid normal calcium solutions as damaging to eyes
 - use very dilute solutions of calcium (0.5-1.0%) to treat HF eye burns.
