Mercy Medical Admitting Procedure ================================= Feb 26, 1998 memo from Mike Turturro to DEM Attending Staff: 1. When the PCP is contacted (during daylight hours), please discuss with him/her which unit (floor, IMC, etc.) to which ft4 -patient will be admitted. Utilize afternoon rounds to identify patients that will likely need admission so the admission may be completed while several members of the Department of Medicine Day Team is present. 3. If admissions are required at 5pm they should be given to the Day Admitter, and not saved for the Night Time Admitter. 4. For MHC patients with no assigned physician name, write "MHC" as admitting physician when the papers are pulled to initiate the bed search. 5. With the rapid changing of healthcare plans by patients, it is imperative to make the best effort to determine who the patient's current PCP is when the decision is made to admit the patient (this often requires the use of old records and discussion with the patient). 6. Please ensure that the space and phone lines at the Medical Admitter's desk are kept open for their use.
