þ Hemolytic Reactions
 - In order to protect the kidneys in a patient experiencing a
   hemolytic reaction to a blood transfusion, which diuretic is preferred:
   furosemide or mannitol?  While crystalloid is being infused, furosemide
   increases renal cortical blood flow and is protective of renal function.
   Mannitol does not improve renal blood flow, and therefore it should not be
   used.
