Gastritis ========= þ Phlegmonous Gastritis - Strep, Staph, Proteus and E. coli can all cause a rare form of gastritis called the acute phlegmonous type. This is a potentially life-threatening infection in which the gastric wall is heavily infiltrated, and may become necrotic. The patient may become septic. Immunocompromised patients are at particularly increased risk for this process.
