Drowning

þ 10-15% continue to have laryngospasm ("Dry Drowning")

þ salt and fresh water: does it make a difference?  Does it make a difference in
  the blood electrolytes?  No.  Requires massive amounts of ingestion to get
  electrolyte abnormalities.  Does it make a difference in the lung?  Yes;

þ What is the prognosis for conscious near-drowning victims?
 - Of the near drowning victims who arrive conscious to the ED,
   approximately 15% will have fatal pulmonary or cerebral
