Creeping Eruption = "Cutaneous Larva Migrans" ============================================= þ Cause of Creeping Eruption - from dog (or cat) tapeworm larvae in the feet - from walking on less-rich Caribbean beaches where dogs run loose. - Third most common complaint of returning tropical travelers, after diarrhea and fever [Keystone, NEJM 2006;354:119-30] þ Natural History of Creeping Eruption - lasts for a month then resolves þ Diagnosis of Creeping Eruption - a lot bigger than scabies - 1-2 cm/day progress - but looks like scabies - may be vesiculobullous - on the feet, particularly the soles þ Treatment of Creeping Eruption - freeze both ends with liquid nitrogen, some say - others say treat with + Albenza (albendazole) 400 mg/day for 3 days, or + Stromectol (ivermectin) single 200 mcg/kg dose
