Concussion and Post Concussive Syndrome

þ Grading of Concussion:
 - Grade I:   dazed, temp. confused, no memory disturbance
 - Grade II:  disorientation, several minutes' antegrade amnesia
 - Grade III: retrograde amnesia, may have LOC from seconds to minutes
 - Grade IV:  5-10 minute LOC, both retrograde and antegrade amnesia
 - Grade V:   Prolonged LOC
   retrograde amnesia of more than 5 minutes is highly associated with hematomas.

Grade 1: No LOC,                - Remove from play              - Return after 1 week if
resolution of sxs in <15 min    - May return if sxs resolve     there are not symptoms

Grade 2: No LOC but sxs         - No play for that day          - Return in 2 weeks if no                        last >15 min                    - Return after 1 week if        symptoms
                                there are not symptoms          - Out for season if any CT
                                                                abnormalities
Grade 3: Any LOC                - neuro exam and imaging        - withhold until symptoms
                                - out 1 week for brief LOC      have be absent for 1 month
