Augmentin

þ New Dosages:
 - 875 BID instead of 500 TID
 - 250 TID
 - Augmentin 400 mg PO BID for peds:
 - 400/5cc in 100, 75, 50.
 - 200/5cc in 100, 75, 50.
þ Augmentin XR:
 - probably because Augmentin will soon become generic
 - 100 mg and 62.5 mg clavulanic acid/tablet, usually ii PO BID
 - rationale: drug-resistant pneumococci respond to higher doses of amox, but
   have no beta-lactamase, so don't need more clavulanic acid
 - same from i Augmentin 500 and iii amox 500 BID, much cheaper once generic
   Augmentin available.
 - per Med Ltr (1/20/03) useful mostly if sinusitis doesn't respond to plain
   amox; $110/10 days vs. $25 for amox 875 BID for 10 days
